Perhaps you want to play a video game online or watch a movie. For this to happen, you need to establish a connection between your game console and the internet. Here are some steps to help make that happen.
First off, you need to connect an Ethernet cable from the back of your console to your router. Depending on the console you wish to connect, you may need to get a LAN adapter for it. For example, the LAN adapter uses USB ports with the Wii.

The Ethernet adapter is built into most consoles (PS2 slim, Xbox, Xbox 360, and PlayStation 3). Now that your cables are all connected, it’s time for configuring your settings. This may vary, depending on your console type.
Configure the network settings based upon what console you have. With the PlayStation 2 you first insert the included installation disc and follow the onscreen instructions to configure the network. Use DHCP for the IP address, this allows the console to automatically receive an IP address.
If you have an Xbox you need to start the console without a game. Select “Xbox Live“, and then “Advanced”. Make sure both the IP Addresses and DNS are set to automatic.
With an Xbox 360, go to “System Settings,” and then “Network Settings”, followed by “Configure Network. Follow any on-screen directions that come up. For a PlayStation 3, go to “Settings”, and then “Network Settings” and select “Custom,” again following the directions that come up on the screen.
With a Wii, click on “Wii Settings,” and then “Wii System Settings.” After that, click on “Internet,” and then “Connection settings.” Follow the on-screen instructions that come up.
By now your Ethernet cables are connected. Your system is also configured and set up to connect to the Internet. All that is left now is to have some fun!
